The Harry Ransom Center is an archive, library, and museum at the University of Texas, specializing in the collection of literary and cultural artefacts for the purpose of advancing the study of the arts and humanities. The collections include approximately one million books, over 42 million manuscripts, 5 million photographs, and 100,000 works of art.
Within these collections exists an extensive archive of James Joyce’s original manuscripts and correspondence, including the final first edition page proofs for Ulysses (1922), with the author’s corrections and additions. Hosted at the HRC, the Women and the Making of James Joyce’s Ulysses exhibition presents over 150 of these rare objects, including original copies of The Little Review in which Ulysses was first published in serial form, manuscripts in Joyce’s hand, rare books, and photographs.
